I don't like Starswirl's robes. You drew them excellently, but their design. It's kind of hard to take stars and bells seriously. They're so tacky. It works on Trixie, but imagine Gandalf wearing that. What's the point of so many bells anyways? You turn your head and people stare at you because you just interrupted their conversation with their friend because of all the noise you made. I also assume it's hard to concentrate on your master-level spells while hearing *jingle jingle* all the time.
Haha I like to think of them as very ancient fashion. You know, just look at all the weird things humans have worn through out history. You only have to go back 10 or 20 years from now, and clothes that were concidered genuinely cool back then now look ridiculous and weird. Just like our clothes of today will in the future.
Maybe the bells were a symbol of masculinity or something in pre-classical pony culture, and Starswirl looked like a total bad-ass to his contemporaries.
I agree. It's hard to take tights and codpieces seriously, either, but there was a point in time that they were very valid fashion. Styles change greatly across even a couple decades, to say nothing of a millenium. Yes I know, but honestly, that's how everypony was wearing their mane back then.
I like to see interpretations of Starswirl and Clover that aren't just Twilight dressed in their outfits. Nice job.
These. These are just fantastic. I love how their clothes look dirty and worn as if they've been on a long journey. I love how you can actually see a resemblance to Twilight in Clover. Fantastic. Simply fantastic.
Dat Star Swirl. Awesome. His hair and his expression are badass, and that robe, sheesh. Awesome. Clover's is just as great, despite its rougher appearance. It's also interesting to note that they're both more or less equally scuffed and tattered, despite the differences. The somewhat simple yet perfectly good background seals the deal and makes it all very awesome indeed.
